Delving back into the past – looking for others with the same name can open a Pandora’s Box – it’s a fairly common past time and can lead to exciting finds. For my brother, his muscular dystrophy demanded a wheel chair and desk, these were his basic tools which started his detective work.
Having an enquiring, tidy mind, he began building a family tree. Over time, as the tree grew and blossomed, his letters revealed a Thomas Keary born 1791, in Ireland, to parents James and Mary Keary. Thomas was baptised in St. Paul’s Church, Dublin, a Church of Ireland, not Catholic church, on the 4 th December 1791. Helping to fill in his Census Form in 1851 Thomas had added an (e) to his surname and was living in 20, North Row, Brompton, North London. His profession was given as a gold and silver melter (as written). By the time he filled-in his census form he was aged sixty married to Ester Pepler of Great Stanmore and had three children living at home.

Terence Kearey spent his industrial life as an artist and colour consultant, finally as a studio manager at W. R. Royle & Sons. Leaving industry, lectured at The London College of Printing, there, specialised in all aspects of pre-printing technology. designing and teaching the first advanced course in Colour Appreciation.
Writing technical papers on artwork preparation for printing magazines here and in Russia afforded a venture into the World of publications. In his second year sat a Teaching and College of Preceptor’s qualifications. becoming a Qualified Youth leader and Victim Support Counsellor developed insights into, the then, current youth culture, and the psychological needs of the victims of crime.
Taking early retirement, opened a gallery and studio both here and in Spain. accepting commissions as a watercolour artist, whilst working as a full-time portrait painter. Finally, retiring from professional work, writes instructional booklets for The Weald & Downland Museum. Starts writing a series of social media books.
Subjects: Single chairs, Wattle and Daub, Hedges & Hurdles, Physics of Light, Recognition of Prints, Pastures to Parkland, and Icons. These books – give time and place to the past, and an increased understanding of social history and rural life.
